Enriching Resident Engagement at Seasons

Seasons St Catharines one can make a difference food drive

Seasons Retirement Communities’ mission is to deliver meaningful moments to its residents by proactively learning who they are and understanding what is most important to them. The company’s dedicated and passionate team members aim to make a meaningful difference and exceed resident expectations. Feedback is valued and encouraged, as it helps Seasons deliver on its promise to be the best at what they do daily.

Many residents share that they chose a Seasons community because of the feeling they got when they first visited. Warm and welcoming with friendly, professional staff, a Seasons residence is beautiful and tastefully decorated, maintaining a comfortable, home-like atmosphere.

There are many different reasons why someone might seek retirement community living, including healthy meals, care services, or the peace of mind one feels free of household chores and maintenance. Social events and initiatives are also crucial for the seniors’ Seasons supports. Activities and programs are based on our residents’ likes and preferences and might include events such as Retro Movie Nights or Wild West Socials.

Below are some ways in which Seasons enhances resident engagement:

Kickin’ It Up!

This company-wide initiative inspires Seasons residents to move more, improving their strength, endurance, and balance. Each community provides regular fitness classes to help prevent falls and health decline while increasing energy levels, cognition, and more!

Seasons Celebrates Remarkable Residents®

Seasons feels it’s crucial to acknowledge the accomplishments of the people who call them home. Family, friends, and staff are invited to nominate a resident who has overcome obstacles to accomplish their goals and become an exemplary community member through their work, volunteerism, talents, or activism. Established in 2012, this signature program leaves a lasting and beneficial impact on the residents whose stories are heard. It also positively affects our team members, who learn something personal and unique about the people they support daily.

Three finalists are chosen, and they compete in an online voting contest for the winning title. The company also makes a $20,000 charitable donation on behalf of the finalists to a Seasons-approved Canadian charity of their choice: $10,000 for the winner and $5,000 for each finalist.

Seasons Celebrates International Day of Older Persons

In 1990, the United Nations General Assembly designated October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons. This day encourages countries to draw attention to and challenge negative stereotypes or misconceptions about older persons. Seasons believes that ‘every day is seniors day,’ and starting in 2021, they acknowledge this day annually to celebrate their residents by showing appreciation for their contributions, which includes a dinner party and customized event by each community.

Seniors + Generosity = Seniorosity®

Many Seasons’ residents are lifelong volunteers. To facilitate their desire to spread kindness and spark joy, Seasons launched Seniorosity® in 2018. Seniorosity® is a program that allows residents to select the charities, individuals, and organizations they wish to support. These teams make a difference in the lives of countless community members by delivering treats to hard-working first responders or collecting much-needed items to donate to local animal shelters.

One Can Make A Difference

Seasons first partnered with Food Banks Canada in 2016 after learning that more seniors aged 65 and older seek access to its services. Annually, Seasons provides the equivalent of about 3,000 meals. The company-wide ‘One Can Make a Difference’ challenge addresses the gap in the summer months when food insecurity is still prevalent, but the pace of giving slows. The goal for the collection across all Seasons communities is 7,000 cans. Seasons also donates $2,100 on behalf of each community. As of July 2024, Seasons has donated more than $300,000 in funds and food.

Following the ‘One Can Make A Difference Challenge’ in July, all homes collect non-perishable goods every holiday season in December to fight food insecurity in the communities where Seasons homes are situated.

It’s powerful when people come together in hopes of making a difference. Seasons is pleased to have donated so significantly to local communities and is proud of the charitable efforts of our team members, residents, and their families.

Pennies for Poppies

Seasons is proudly home to many veterans. Since 2016, all communities have participated in its ‘Pennies for Poppies’ program by collecting pocket change donations to support local Royal Canadian Legions in November. Seasons team members ‘plant’ hundreds of paper poppies in the gardens to visually display a commitment to honouring the brave people who served our country.
