Seasons Residents Inspire Activities & Initiatives

Seasons Cambridge resident conga line

Seasons Retirement Communities play a crucial role in nurturing continuous learning by offering various enriching activities and events. Many move into senior housing due to an increasing desire to be more social or make new friends. Residents can pursue their interests, develop new skills, and build meaningful relationships.

By focusing on personal growth and overall well-being, Seasons empowers older adults to stay emotionally, mentally, and physically active by offering a variety of initiatives influenced by direct input from its residents.

There truly is something for everyone to do at Seasons. Resident feedback is encouraged and valued; their advice is most important in ensuring the company delivers on its promise to be the best at what it does daily.

In addition to recognizing milestones such as monthly birthday celebrations, communities craft individualized activities and programs based on our residents’ likes, preferences, and talents.

Below are some ways in which Seasons residents enhance the engagement of those at their own communities:

The Power of Painting

Engaging in entertaining activities like painting allows older adults to expand their knowledge base and enhance mental agility. Art can introduce new concepts, challenging those to grow intellectually. Actively participating in acquiring a new skill creates a sense of achievement and fulfillment.

Resident Betty has been painting for over twenty years. She has found inspiration and growth by participating in the Seasons art classes led by fellow resident Chuck. Acrylics are her medium of choice, and she often draws from photographs, adding her unique touch to create something personal and meaningful. Her preferred subjects are landscapes, which she believes bring meaning to the paintings she creates.

The Magic of Music

Seasons offers many different activities shaped by the desires and preferences of each community’s residents. Their Fun Managers are attentive and eager to incorporate favourite pastimes and encourage residents to lead their own workshops using their valued talents or unique hobbies. One home has tapped into the meaning of music.

Residents Gord and Wendy have been in the music industry for more than 50 years. They started as full-time DJs for weddings, local events, and corporate functions, travelling to and from their shows, driving their double-decker bus, and sharing their passion with people. Though they adore the 50s – 70s era, they enjoy exploring different genres and love how happy and upbeat music can transform the feel of any dancefloor.

Gord and Wendy love sharing music with their Seasons home and seeing how it allows their fellow residents to connect with others through a shared experience. Showcasing their talent means so much to them, and they appreciate all residents for allowing them to reflect and reminisce about the amazing adventures they’ve had.

Shared Experiences Through Social Interactions

Sharing hobbies and pastimes with like-minded peers in retirement communities fosters social connections and creates a supportive network. Some popular resident-driven initiatives include Cribbage and Scrabble.

One resident, Joan, inspired her home’s “coffee and conversation” that takes place in the common bistro area every morning, where all are welcome. Another, named Audrey, runs the afternoon bridge club every Monday, while Ina sets up the tables every evening to ensure there are enough players for each table at Euchre.

Ina also looks after the residents’ library with help from her fellow resident, Merrily. Together, they track down any missing books to return to the library each month and pick out new ones for everyone to enjoy.

This home’s Book Club, cleverly named “Read Between the Wines,” is another partially resident-driven program. The members help their Fun Manager select a book monthly, and a couple accompany them to the local public library to pick up the books. When this club meets at the end of each month, they serve wine and share some conversation.
