Seasons Annual Event Embraces Aging

American short story writer Edith Ann Pearlman penned, “The ordinary experiences of aging alter and clarify our view of past, present, and future.” Seasons Retirement Communities celebrated the International Day of Older Persons on October 1. In 1990, the United Nations General Assembly granted an official designation to this day. It encourages countries to draw attention to and challenge negative stereotypes and misconceptions about older adults and aging, enabling seniors to enjoy life to its fullest potential.

To demonstrate the commitment to this cause and its residents, Seasons has launched the hashtag #EverydayisSeniorsDayatSeasons. Through this campaign, the company aims to shed light on seniors’ inspiring lives and stories, showcasing how every day at Seasons celebrates their wisdom, personalities, and experiences.

Seasons across Ontario and Alberta engaged in annual events that revelled in the invaluable contributions of its residents while promoting their rights and well-being with team members through this specialty signature program.

Here are some of the ways that Seasons homes honoured their wonderful residents on International Day of Older Persons:

Talent Show

Some communities organized a talent show to showcase their residents and perhaps a surprise guest. Residents signed up to participate, and prizes were provided to the top performers. Local performers were also invited to finish off the festivities.

“The Seasons Stoney Creek team was excited to create lasting memories at the talent show while honouring the vibrant lives of our residents,” mused Matthias Hamm, Fun Manager. “It was a day filled with laughter, joy, and celebration of the remarkable spirit of our residents.”

Fall Festival

Others organized an indoor or outdoor fall extravaganza and offered activities such as pumpkin patch picking and decorating, a ring toss, a corn maze, and tasty seasonal treats, including pumpkin-spiced drinks, caramel apples, and candy corn. Fall-themed photo backdrop station with props added to their excitement.

“At Seasons Camrose, we love organizing events that bring people together and create lasting memories,” mused Landon Miller, General Manager. “This celebration was not only a way to embrace the joys of the fall season but also to celebrate the incredible lives of our residents who continue to inspire us all.”

Dance Party

Dance parties were also an option, complete with music, décor, and cocktails. Seasons homes picked a theme, provided accessories for residents to wear, and asked them to dress up in their best clothing. Dance lessons were even offered during the party!

“At Seasons Milton, we believe in celebrating the lives of our residents every day, but on this special occasion, we aimed to amplify their voices and celebrate their resilience,” shared Sarah Periana, General Manager. “The festive gathering was a wonderful opportunity for residents to connect, have fun, and celebrate the vibrant spirit of the day.”

Creative Workshop

The option to organize a live creative workshop for residents was also offered, with various activities, such as photography, painting, drawing, and creative writing.

“Enjoying the beauty of the season to commemorate this special day was a great way to celebrate our wonderful residents,” conveyed Christine Boniface, General Manager. Moments like these remind us of the incredible sense of community and joy that our residents bring.”

Art Gallery

Finally, some communities encouraged their residents to submit their prized artwork and showcase it in a Seasons Art Gallery, carefully considering how to display and light it for an optimal viewing experience.

“At Seasons Wetaskiwin, celebrating the International Day of Older Persons is an opportunity to honour our residents’ incredible lives and experiences,” expressed Jackie Hay. “This special day allows us to not only celebrate their journeys but also create meaningful moments that bring everyone together to celebrate our residents.”
