How to celebrate Father’s Day from a distance

senior-man-mail-blog-2

Father’s Day is on June 20, and while ideally celebrated in person, many of us are choosing to do so from a distance for everyone’s wellbeing. If you feel hesitant to gather in small groups or are unable to due to your local Public Health restrictions, we’ve put together a list of safe, creative ways you can celebrate Dad this year from a distance.

1. Connect virtually

Video calls have become a staple for many people over the past year to connect with friends and loved ones. Connecting virtually with Dad this Father’s Day can be a great alternative to seeing him in person. Whether you connect one-to-one or invite the whole family, it can be an enjoyable occasion. You could consider watching one of his favourite shows or movies together, enjoying a meal or happy hour, or hosting a family game night.

If your loved one doesn’t have access to a device that can be used for video calling or is unfamiliar with the platform, Seasons team members can help them get set up and feeling comfortable with the new technology.

2. Special delivery

Everyone loves a special delivery! You could surprise Dad with a gift she’ll love by ordering it online and selecting Father’s Day as the delivery date. It could be a gift basket, baked goods, or even a subscription box.

You could even drop off something yourself, like a curated parcel filled with his favourite items, which would be sure to make him feel special and appreciated this Father’s Day. Grandchildren can contribute too; sometimes, putting the parcel together is half the fun!

When making deliveries to one of our communities, we recommend that they be left outside. If you’re worried about leaving a parcel unattended, simply call in advance and speak with a Seasons team member.

3. Save the date

Throughout the pandemic, it has been difficult to plan in advance. However, in time, as more Canadians get vaccinated, life as we know it will start returning to normal. Give Dad something to look forward to in the meantime by putting some money towards a future activity within reason, like a gift certificate for his favourite restaurant, barber, or pastime. To be safe, check to see if there’s an expiry date on your purchase.

Seasons team members remain committed to keeping residents engaged and connected with their loved ones. We understand that the distance can be hard, but our residents are never alone.
