How to celebrate a distanced Christmas with loved ones

How to celebrate a distanced Christmas

It’s guaranteed the holidays are going to be different this year. While it’s strongly recommended that we spend Christmas with the people in our immediate household to reduce the further spread of COVID-19, we can still find fun and meaningful ways to celebrate with those we love from a distance.

Many people are choosing to host a virtual event on platforms like Skype or Zoom. Once you have sent your invitations and provided a link for your guests, the next step is to plan special details and fun activities to make it one to remember. Here are some ideas:

Themed-backgrounds. Many platforms offer the option to set a themed-background, so choose one that goes with your party! It could be anything from a winter landscape to a snapshot from your favourite Christmas movie. You could also ask your guests to dress up according to the theme or hold a competition for best holiday outfit.

Plan an activity. A pre-planned activity will provide some structure to your event and provide an engaging way for everyone to feel involved and connected. This could be anything from a gingerbread decorating competition, to spending time putting together a holiday family recipe book, or having a meal together over a video call.

Gift or party favour. Having a gift delivered before the party or after as a token of thanks for coming can be an added detail that makes your party one to remember. This could be as simple as dropping off a homemade treat or sending a gift by direct mail or email.

If guests are concerned about unwanted germs, according to Canada Post due to the poor survivability of COVID-19 on surfaces, there is a low risk of spread from products or packaging shipped over a period of days or weeks. Currently, there is no evidence of COVID-19 being transmitted by imported goods or packages.

Staying Connected

As technology becomes an increasingly important tool for us, Seasons residents are utilizing the resources available to them. Several Seasons communities offer access to computer labs and shared devices to keep in touch with loved ones with the help of team members.

At Seasons, our team members are finding unique ways of their own to make this season cheerful for our residents. For example, Seasons Olds offered a Christmas-themed hot chocolate and treat cart for residents to enjoy from the comfort of their suites!
