Seasons Retirement Communities proudly celebrates CEO Mike Lavallée for receiving the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA)’s prestigious Donna Holwell Legacy Award, 2023. This award honours individuals who, through their dedication and commitment to Retirement Community Living, have created a legacy of work resulting in positive change and measurable difference for the sector.
Mike was selected among many accomplished nominees and joins an esteemed group of previous winners considered pillars in the seniors housing sector.
Mike served on the ORCA Board for over 16 years in various capacities, advocating for residents’ quality of life and care, government policy and regulation development. He has contributed to many committees, was the Board Liaison for commercial partners, and acted as Board Chair for multiple terms. He is now the ORCA Board Treasurer and an ASCHA Board of Directors member.
About the award, Mike says, “It’s incredibly meaningful to me to receive this recognition, which honours Donna’s legacy. I joined the Board of ORCA while Donna was the Chair. With her encouragement and mentorship, I eventually supported the association as Board Chair. At the same time, she went on to help the government create the regulations we now all operate under. Her influence on the sector is indelible, and I am fortunate to have felt her guiding hand on my career path.”
Mike started at Jarlette Health Services as a Long Term Care Residence General Manager before joining Chartwell Retirement Residences as Vice-President of Operations. He then joined a brand-new Seasons Retirement Communities in 2009.
Chief Operating Officer LeighAnne Voll says, “Mike’s vision for our company began at the company’s inception when we were tasked with establishing the brand and operating platform. Culture has always been the priority, as we believe our team members will provide the exceptional care and service our residents deserve when they are engaged and appreciated.”
She says, “Over these nearly fifteen years, Mike has led our company’s growth to 22 communities in two provinces from acquisitions to new developments and helped us navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout this time, he has advocated for our residents and Canadian seniors in general. We thank him for his dedication to this sector we passionately care about.”
Mike is the author of Connect, Care, Change. A Road Map for Authentic Leadership, a book about the authentic connections that shape a company’s culture and create caring leaders who make a difference in the lives of others.
Mike says, “My work for our sector would not be possible without the support of my home team at Seasons Retirement Communities. Thank you, Team Seasons; I share this recognition with all of you.”
